I was working on a Saturday morning and was on the phone with a friend and when they asked me what I was doing, I mentioned this to them.
Their response was feeling ‘bad’ for me.
I was confused. I didn’t feel bad for me – why would they feel bad for me?
I CHOSE to work today. No one forced me.
Their response highlighted the fact that most people view work as a bad thing and something you are forced to do.
I realized in that moment that I was aware of a profound shift that took place inside of me
I don’t dread work because I get to do something I love all of the time!
While researching things because I love to do that, I found the term ‘Workafrolic’ that Richard St. Jean writes about.
He calls a workafrolic someone who is passionate about their job, who loves what they do and works hard but also has FUN!
Working hard is not for the sake of hard work, but rather because you are passionate about what you do. It’s not necessarily for your wallet or the money you will get out of it.
The other end is a workaholic. Someone who is addicted to work. They may not be passionate about their job or what they do. They (in some cases) can be doing it just for the money.
For a large part of my life, I only saw workaholics and I thought that was passion – if you just work all of the time.
In my own experience, that led to self destruction.
I searched for what the difference between the two could be and then one day I got the answer so simply:
“It’s an awareness” 🤯
So how do you become aware you ask?
Well isn’t that the damn question haha 😆
I wish I could lay out all of the steps for you (truly). I probably don’t know all of them! I just know what has worked for me.
Here’s what I can tell you, the first step is acknowledging that passion AND play/fun can co-exist WHILE you are working.
And that is available for YOU ✨
If you were like me and didn’t know you could combine work and play, and that’s something you want to do – feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and we can meet to see if I can help you!
